Reliability Centered Maintenance:
Simply stated it is the application of several maintenance strategies based on specific considerations such as:
Originally developed by the FAA and Boeing Company in the 1960's. The complexity and possibilities of catastrophic events had increased dramatically with the introduction of wide-bodied planes such as the 747, DC-10, and L-1011. They formed a team to study Preventive Maintenance Programs and concluded that routine overhauls had minimal or even no effect on safety in certain scenarios.
